|
The Master of Science degree in Geoscience is designed to prepare students for a broad range of challenging careers in government service, private consulting, and industry. This thesis-based degree program also serves as a stepping stone for students who wish to pursue further graduate studies at the doctoral level. Working closely with their advisor, students focus on original research in one of several areas of specialization, including: (1) Economic Geology; (2) Hydrology, Paleoclimatology, and Enviromental Geology; (3) Petrology, Minerology, Geochemistry, and Planetary Science; (4) Straigraphy, Paleontology, Sedimentology, and Surface Processes; and (5) Geochronology, Structural Geology, and Tectonics. Students are expected to develop original research suitable for submission to a refereed scientific journal. Students are expected to have strong content knowledge in their area of emphasis, which is tested during the culminating defense of their thesis research. | |

Graduate College Requirements
- Four-year bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution or an approved equivalent
- Minimum overall grade point average of 2.75 (4.00=A) for the bachelor’s degree or minimum 3.00 (4.00=A) for the last two years (60 semester hours)
- Transcript from each postsecondary institution attended. If the institution is outside the U.S. a foreign credential evaluation may be required.
- International applicants only: proof of English proficiency
